Bits from Jockey's past
Jockey is one of the oldest brands on the market with their history dating back to 1878. They started in the industry by selling woollen socks that were a hit in that day and age and sent their sales sky rocketing. Woollen socks were seen to be very popular with the lumberjack community as it stopped their foot pain. Staying ahead of the curve, Jockey invented the ‘Jockey Short’ and the ‘Jockey Y-front’ in early 1930s that they are still known for today. The company trademarked both those underwear names and eventually started adding the name ‘Jockey’ into the waistbands; an innovative branding trick that many brands now carry on doing today! Who doesn’t love a simple branded trunk? In 1969 Jockey had previously designed inner garments for astronauts to wear on their trip to the moon. Not many brands can say they’ve held some astronaut’s bits in place even without gravity! In the 1970s, the brand officially changed their name to ‘Jockey International’ from S.T Cooper & Sons, as most of their customers new them as Jockey anyway. Today they remain thriving and keeping up with current trends and selling all over the world, delivering comfort all year round.
How Tradie started covering everyone’s bits
Tradie is an Aussie owned and designed brand and this Aussie brand has been around for almost a decade. They started off in men’s underwear to cater for men of all shapes and sizes, and many walks of life. Tradie is a way of life, whether that be the “Aussie bloke” heading down to the pub for a Parma after a day on the tools or a businessman who works the desk job. Tradie have made sure of this by including men’s sizes from small to 6XL. As the name goes Tradie has also created a workwear range for, you guessed it, the ‘tradies’ of the world, both men and the ‘Tradie Lady’s’. All Tradie products can be found on their website tradie.com. Although the Tradie focus is underwear and workwear, they also provide other useful products from tools to beer. You can’t be any “Aussie-er” than a brand named ‘Tradie’ selling some cold bevvies for the ladies and the boys… honestly what can’t they do!
Tackle, like Tradie, is an Aussie owned and with that comes the high-quality product standards. Tackle has revolutionised the men’s trunk, finding a fabric that is not only good at keeping your bits nice and airy, but better for the planet than cotton. What’s this amazing fabric you ask? Bamboo! Who knew that a hard, long hollow stick could be made into such a super soft fabric, that doesn’t use as much water as cotton and doesn’t chafe. Keep your bits Comfy AS, and help the planet at the same time. Why not?! Tackle has also thought about how your bits biggest supporters are getting to you, we’ve made sure all our bags are biodegradable, keeping the planet and you Comfy AS!
Jockey has experience on its side when it comes to the underwear industry but with that can come complacency. Tackle, although young compared to Jockey, knows what the modern-day man wants in his undies. Our undies have a longer leg so that your trunks don’t turn into a cheeky trunk. They also want to be your boys biggest support, so they created the ‘no swing’ pouch. The no swing pouch is a mesh fabric sewn on the inside of the trunks, to stop your boys from swinging and keep them in place. Tackle, similar to Tradie, have added a nylon elastane panel to keep your thighs from feeling like best friends that never separate!
Price almost always comes into play when you’re making a decision on which ones to buy. Undies are something only a few select people see, so why spend a fortune on them? Tackle has taken this into consideration with their trunks priced at $25 a pair, or 7 for $18. Cheap by comparison to Jockey’s $24-31 price range. Tradie are keeping everyone on their toes with their prices ranging $14-$16 on their website tradie.com or through their retailers like Big W and Best and Less. So… $25 for keeping you and the planet Comfy AS is a small price to pay and if you still don’t love them…. They’re FREE! What other brands have guarantee like that?!
